Blazek will be sworn in at 8 a.m. Friday during the regular monthly board meeting.

“For me this is an opportunity to get after things that are important to me in this time in my life and important in my community,” Blazek said. “I think there is a lot of unknowns in health care right now ... My interest is in the strategic long-term planning and how to best position it so it can maintain its quality of care and access for all.”

Blazek, a partner at Mount Vernon-based HKP Architects, was among five applicants for the position, according to the release.

She has been active in nonprofit organizations in the county, including the Skagit Women’s Alliance Network and the Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County, of which she is a past president.

The position’s current term ends in December. Commissioners serve six-year terms.
