A landmark Craftsman-style bungalow in Santa Ana designed and built by prolific architect Frederick Eley for his family in 1915 and recently updated has come on the market.

The asking price is $875,000.

Known as the Frederick Eley House, the shingled 1,765-square-foot residence at 206 W. 18th Street has two bedrooms, one bathroom and a spacious living room. The living room boasts built-ins, a brick fireplace and pendant chandelier fixtures that hang from a slightly vaulted ceiling.

A separate one-bedroom unit, with a full bathroom, open kitchen concept and laundry area, shares the 6,723-square-foot lot.

Features of the main house include double-leaded stained glass doors that lead to a formal dining room with a built-in hutch and period lighting. Splashy floor tile runs from the newly remodeled kitchen to the breakfast nook.

The bathroom also got an update without altering any of the charms of this antique home, No. 17 on the city’s Register of Historic Properties and eligible for property tax relief under the Mills Act.

James Figueroa of Fidelity Realty and Development Group is the listing agent.

According to “Santa Ana (An Illustrated History)” by Diann Marsh, English-born Eley oversaw the construction of more than 130 houses, schools, churches and other public buildings during his 26 years in Orange County starting from 1911.

His designs were of no particular architectural style, ranging from craftsman bungalows to the gothic spires on St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange, Marsh wrote.

But like St. Johns, several other of his works are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

They include the Santa Ana Fire Station Headquarters No. 1 at 1322 N. Sycamore Street, YMCA building at 206 W. Civic Center Drive and the Yost Theater at 307 N. Spurgeon Street.
