Authorities investigating deaths of hundreds of pigs at WA Wheatbelt property - ABC News

Authorities are investigating an unfolding animal welfare situation in Western Australia's Wheatbelt.

The WA Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has confirmed it is responding to a report about the welfare of a number of pigs at the property.

Multiple industry sources have told the ABC the incident involves hundreds of pigs, which are believed to have died.

A DPIRD spokesperson says animal welfare inspectors have attended the property and have taken appropriate steps to protect the welfare, safety and health of animals.

"The immediate animal welfare issues are being addressed," the spokesperson said.

"DPIRD is continuing to monitor the situation closely and will consider further action as required."
