
Ever since Thomas Cook started package trips to Europe in the 1950s, the Mediterranean coast has been a reliable favourite for holidays and second homes, with an initial appeal based largely on sunshine, good value, a dose of local culture and a nearby beach. Some 70 years on, that appeal is undiminished.
